Facial Aftercare

Facial Aftercare Instructions

After your facial, keep your routine simple and protect your skin:

- Avoid exfoliation, retinoids, strong active products, and scrubs for 2-3 days unless your provider gives different instructions.

- Avoid heavy heat, steam rooms, saunas, and intense workouts for 24 hours.

- Wear broad-spectrum SPF during the day and limit direct sun exposure.

- Keep skin hydrated and avoid picking, squeezing, or over-cleansing.

- Contact your provider if you experience unusual discomfort, prolonged irritation, or have questions about your routine.

Your provider may recommend a customized routine based on your treatment and skin goals.

How to use this template

Hand it out at checkout

A printed handout at checkout is the highest-attention moment for aftercare. Clients are still in your space and can ask questions before leaving.

Send a digital copy too

Email or text the same instructions through your booking platform. Clients lose the printed handout; the digital copy is what they actually reference at home.

Customize for your add-ons

If the facial included extractions, peels, or device work, swap in service-specific aftercare for the first 48 hours. Generic aftercare misses what matters for higher-risk services.

Make the contact step easy

List the same channel clients booked through (text, email, or your booking platform). A clear contact path turns 'is this normal?' anxiety into a quick answer instead of a no-show next month.

Frequently asked questions

How long should clients wait to use retinoids after a facial?

Most providers recommend pausing retinoids and strong actives for 2–3 days after a maintenance facial. Treatments with extractions, peels, or device work may need a longer pause — 5–7 days is common.

Can clients wear makeup after a facial?

Most clients can wear light, clean makeup the next day after a maintenance facial. After a peel or extractions, suggest skipping makeup for at least 24 hours to support recovery.

What about workouts and heat?

Skip steam rooms, saunas, and intense workouts for 24 hours after the facial. Heat and sweat irritate freshly treated skin and can trigger breakouts.

When should clients call about irritation?

Mild redness, sensitivity, and slight flaking are normal. Persistent burning, blistering, swelling, or any reaction outside the treated area should be reported the same day.

Is this a medical or legal document?

No. This template is for general business use. It is not medical, legal, or compliance advice. Adjust for your products and services, and have a licensed professional review if you're unsure.
